Quote to Consider

"Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it." - Groucho Marx

RESCUE BARB FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Support The Fight Against Muscular Dystrophy

MDA Lock Up Please Help Me!!!

I have been arrested and will be put in jail for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Lock-Up. Don't even bother asking what crime I have committed - it's not really that important. I just have to try to raise my bail to send 5 kids to summer camp ($3,000) before the Lock-Up and they will go easy on me, but I need your financial assistance to post my bond.

Please lend your support during the: THE CENTRAL LANCASTER LOCK-UP AT THE BRICKYARD!

Your 100% tax-deductible donation will help MDA continue research into the cause and the possible cure of the 43 neuromuscular diseases they cover. Your support of the MDA Lock-Up will also help MDA provide wheelchairs, clinic visits and summer camp for the families served by the Association in our local area.

Click on the link to donate now! Use the email address and password information to make your donation. Checks may also be dropped off at our retail store.

 POOL TIP
 White Flaky Pool Surface

Magenta Stuff This summer we have been receiving an influx of customer calls about a white flaky residue on pool surfaces. If you are experiencing similar white flaky deposits on your pool floor we have some suggestions. Water chemistry is vital in maintaining a great pool surface.

Remember to test your water regularly and maintain ideal levels.

We suggest the following ranges if you are experiencing these issues:
  • pH 7.2-7.4
  • Alkalinity 80-90
  • Calcium Hardness 200-250

We also suggest a product called Magic Jack's The Magenta Stuff in conjunction with proper water chemistry. Please read the label and follow the manufacturer's recommended dosage. This is not an instantaneous fix; however, it will slowly resolve the issue providing you keep ideal chemical levels.

Magic Jack's The Magenta Stuff retails for $24.95 + tax.

 SPA TIP
 Water Chemistry Levels

Onzen customers...consider maintaining your pH and alkalinity levels on the low range. This will help alleviate an calcium build up from forming on the Onzen cell.

The lower end of ideal pH levels are 7.2-7.4 ppm.

 KATE'S KITCHEN
Roasted Tomatoes with Garlic, Gorgonzola and Herbs

Roasted Tomatoes 12 Roma tomatoes, sliced in 1/2 lengthwise
1/4 C. olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
3/4 C. plain bread crumbs
3/4 C. finely crumbled Gorgonzola
2 T. chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Using a teaspoon or grapefruit spoon, remove the seeds from the tomatoes. Place the tomato halves, cut side down, on paper towels to drain, about 5 minutes.

In a large bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of the olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper. Using clean hands, gently toss the drained tomato halves in the oil mixture until coated. Marinate the tomatoes for 10 minutes. In a small bowl mix together the bread crumbs and Gorgonzola cheese.

Place the marinated tomato halves, cut side up, on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Fill each tomato half with the bread crumb filling. Drizzle with the remaining olive oil. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until slightly softened and the underside of the tomatoes are brown.

Arrange the cooked tomatoes on a serving platter. Sprinkle with the chopped parsley and serve immediately.
